Despite spending just as long as a Bingo Hall, The Essoldo is usually popularly thought of in its original form as a cinema.

In many ways, the history of The Essoldo is a textbook example of the history of cinema in the UK, as a whole.

Since the mid-80s there has been a small resurgence in the popularity of cinema in the UK, be it in relatively niche areas.

This resurgence has yet to occur in Stretford, but there is a large potential for that to happen now.

As well as retaining as much of the existing building, an ARCHIVE space, will help to retain and reveal the history of Stretford, including The Essoldo, as well the wider history of cinema, to residents and visitors from further afield.

For TRANSITION between the canal/tram station and the centre of Stretford.

For everyone in the

LOCALity to gather.
